  19. Description of Working Group:
  20. The TELNET Working Group will examine RFC 854, ``Telnet Protocol
  21. Specification'', in light of the last six years of technical
  22. advancements, and will determine if it is still accurate with how the
  23. TELNET protocol is being used today.  This Group will also look at all 
  24. the TELNET options, and decide which are still germane to current day 
  25. implementations of the TELNET protocol.

  28. (1) Re-issue RFC 854 to reflect current knowledge and usage of the
  29.     TELNET protocol.
  30.    
  31. (2) Create RFCs for new TELNET options to clarify or fill in any
  32.     missing voids in the current option set.  Specifically:
  33.  
  34.     - Environment variable passing
  35.     - Authentication
  36.     - Encryption
  37.     - Compression
  38.  
  39. (3) Act as a clearing-house for all proposed RFCs that deal with the
  40.     TELNET protocol.
